Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus)

Description: a small shearwater entirely dark above, light below. Distinguish from Greater Shearwater by lack of pale collar and white uppertail coverts. Has habit of cruising low over waves then rising abruptly.

Size: Length 13in., Wingspan 33in.

Comments:
Males and females distinguishable by voice (see below). Middle Lawn Island is the only confirmed active breeding colony in North America.
